Based on the quote, I can make some connections. I believe that John Green means that literature isn't as new as it used to be. I think he is right. He wants literature to stay alive, and be vibrant, like it used to be for as long as possible. Students today don't learn as much material in literature as they did many years ago, like when John Green was a kid.

I really never thought of it like that until now. You have a good point, since teachers know kids find reading boring now a days most don't make them read a lot they make them read at least 2 books from what I experienced.

It tells us that storytelling is a very rich and old writing that has been around for a long time.

I think that this quote means that literature is not boring like before, but now it is more interesting and it will be for a long time. I also think he means that now is a good era of literature. I think this is because that the words "cold" and "dead" are associated with being boring or blank. Also the word "vibrant" is associated with eye catching. Eye catching things catch your attention and dead things are things people try to ignore or don't like. John Green wants this to last for a long time.

I agree with John Green on his thoughts on literature. He has a very good point that students have an opportunity to not think of literature in a cold dead way. He means that students can see it as more of storytelling, and maybe find it more interesting. He and many others probably hope that literature will be with us for a long time to come.

As a fan of John Green's works, I usually write down quotes that I find in his books. The quote listed above speaks true to the heart and mind. I wholeheartedly agree with Green's words. Personally, literature has never been a "dead thing" to me. It's not that literature is boring, you just have to find your "type". I agree with him on the fact that literature should stay with us now and throughout the ages.

I agree with what you are saying completely. This is a great example of why literature needs to continue. You said literature never was personally a "dead thing" to you. I'm sure others feel the same exact way. The stories that come from literature have an impact on you and others too.

Based on the quote, I believe that it represents that literature is not just a bunch of boring educational words written on one single paper. It means much more than what you can see. If you read in between the lines you can see that literature is where we can express our deep emotional feelings and is a work of art and it is alive as you write and think and share as our hands copies what we think, how we feel with each letter. Soon enough it will become our story. It will become what we know and will be a way of expression our emotions through out time to come.

Wonderfully said! Literature is truly something that you have to read in between the lines to read emotions that may be hidden there. It is alive in the way that your thoughts differ from others' and what you make of the writing.

I think that john green is trying to say that as students we can learn that literature is still alive and is still used. Also he is saying that he hopes literature will not die out. I think that he is trying to convey how storytelling cant die out unless we forget about it and consider it to be gone.

It tells us that storytelling once was very rich and vibrant and is still alive. He wants students to understand that storytelling is not something to just ignore, it is a rich form of writing that explains something that has happened or something that has been made up.

Storytelling is in fact rich and vibrant in the way it has progressed. It is definitely something that shouldn't be ignored just because you don't enjoy it. It's something in which you have to find your own way of enjoying.

I think this quote branches out to the students that think literature is just something to don't care about. Also how they don't think much of it and don't think as if its a storytelling writing session. I felt like this is something that students need to find interest in literature because I know i do.

I think what he meant by this was that literature has life to it, and that it's more than just words and sentences. I guess I sort of agree with him, in that literature does have feelings in it. He kind of did exaggerate it a bit with all the fancy adjectives, though.

I agree with what John Green is saying. He's saying students should read and study literature because literature has been around for a long time. He's also saying we shouldn't end this because today is completely different than when the stories were told. Literature is an important part of storytelling and I agree that it is important to continue learning about it.

i agree with you and the quote when you said students should read and study literature, maybe this way it wont die out. I also like how you said that its an important to continue learning about it because its an important part of everyday life. Today is so different that when the stories were told, most of them are ancient.

I agree with you 100% Gianna. Literature is an important part of storytelling and if we continue to teach younger generations maybe they'll be able to appreciate the pictures the pieces of literature paint in their minds.

This quote by John Green is quite inspiring. With technology advancing as much as it is students don't want to pick up a book anymore, they don't want to read fantasy they just want to know the latest post on their Facebook or who liked their Instagram picture. But, when you come to school as a student you are given a chance to see pieces of literature come to life when your teacher explains the text in depth or when the picture gets painted into your mind when you close your eyes. Outside of school you would never get the chance to see these pictures unless you picked up a book voluntarily. Especially when younger generations don't want to pick up a book and read, they see it as nothing but a dead thing that should be gone because to them it's "Why do I need to read when I could simply watch a video." But its never the same to what literature could really show. Though people are putting books down and picking up tablets or IPhones I know that even as time goes on people will still read literature whether it is books or poems or anything alone those lines because believe it or not some will still love the feeling of turning a page to read the next adventure the writing could bring.

Wow well said. I absolutely love how you reflected this quote in everyday life. I could never have put it as well as you did. Your creative mind and your understanding of everyday life plays well and is answered beautifully and very well through out! Well done!!!

I think this quote means that most students think of literature as boring reading , but they should take it as a great opportunity to learn new things. Things such as non fiction and fiction stories that have been told for many years.A way of looking into the pass and learning about how other people lived. literature can be filled with facts that inform you or fictional that can tech a bit of a lesson.Literature will be here forever because its a way of self expression.

I think that John Green means that a lot of people don't understand how important books are to kids. Most kids think books are boring and a waste of time. I agree with John that students have a great opportunity to see that literature isn't dead. I think that some people need to read more and understand how important books are to our learning.

I agree with you. I think reading at an early age is good because it teaches you how to read and makes it so you will read more books.

Based on the quote, i can infer that John green is saying that even though reading isn't as popular as it once was and that most people are watching movies, TV and playing video games to get their entertainment, literature is still very much alive and well. It will continue to live on for many years. I agree with what he says because when you're looking at a screen you can't form your own image of what is happening. When reading a book you can read what is on the page and still create your own image of what is there. It makes for a very immersive experience that you just cant get by looking at a screen.

I think he means literature isn't something that should be overlooked but something that stays with us.Hes saying that it is more than something that just a long time ago. It can be a great story instead of it being very dull. I agree with him because it can be very interesting. That is why i agree with John Green.
